Emma has been around horses for most of her life.
Riding racehorses from the age of 14 and throughout her teens, showjumping and managing competition yards, but her real interest has always been ‘problem' horses. Emma had always felt there was something missing from her early training and this was confirmed to her when she moved to Devon in 2005 and met Vanessa Bee who showed her a whole new perspective on handling and training horses, she was hooked from that first meeting and subsequently qualified as a positive horsemanship trainer in 2007. Since then Emma has travelled all over the world in the pursuit of knowledge, riding and training with an eclectic mix of outstanding horsemen & women, including Buck Brannaman, Joe Wolter, classical riding coach Perry Wood, Dr Gerd Heuschmann, Mark Rashid & Lucy Rees to name but a few. Whilst also studying the work of other great horsemen such as Richard Caldwell, Ray Hunt, Tom Dorrance and Anja Beran, and not forgetting the greatest teachers of them all - the horses! Emma specialises in handling the wild or untouched equine, she has spent time abroad and in the UK observing and working with feral horses and believes that studying the behaviour and interactions of horses in their natural environment allows us a much clearer insight into the true nature of the horse and therefore our domestic equines. Emma re-starts a great amount of 'remedial' horses, many of which come to her as a last chance before being pts. Several of Emma's own horses were gifted to her as unmanageable and now have very happy, successful careers under saddle. Based in Mid Devon Emma helps a wide variety of horses and their humans, loading problems, ridden and ground handling issues, re-starting and wild horse handling are several of the areas in which she specialises. She uses a quiet, positive approach, instilling confidence in both the horse and handler, creating a foundation based on understanding and trust. Emma is available for one to one yard visits, group clinics and consultations and has limited spaces for remedial livery.
